About Nicosia

Nicosia is the capital of Cyprus and also the last divided capital of Europe. Today Nicosia is a stylish and cosmopolitan city in the Eastern Mediterranean, wealthy in history and culture.

In the countryside of Nicosia there are ruins of the ancient city kingdoms of Ida lion and Tamasos near the villages of Dali and Politiko. The Fikardou village is a nice place to visit which has been declared as a monument and was awarded the Europa Nostra award in 1987. In the heart of the city, within the 16th century Venetian walls there are plenty of museums, art galleries, Byzantine churches, and medieval buildings. The vintage narrow streets which have been maintained give a feeling of the romantic atmosphere of the past. Outside of the walls in the new city there are modern buildings and amenities.
